She Wrote Her Own Name

Josephine ran over and asked me for a pen. She grabbed my notebook and quickly scribbled on the page. Her face lighting up,  she turned the page around to show me that she had written her name.

Josephine has had fourteen children, and lost four of them. She heard about Hands Producing Hope and came to learn how to make baskets because she wanted to send her children to school, an opportunity she never had.

She is now both sending her children to school, and learning to read and write herself. Though it took a week of practice before she could hold a pen, now, only a month later, Josephine can write her name proudly.
